Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
